PRACTICE PROFILE

Alan Ross is a member of the firm’s Insurance Law Practice.  His practice is primarily litigation-based with an emphasis on the defence of personal injury, life and disability claims. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in catastrophic injury cases. He also represents clients in complex commercial litigation. Mr. Ross has significant experience in administrative law, having been elected as a Bencher of the Law Society of British Columbia for the 2010 - 2012 term. He was a member of and wrote decisions for Discipline Panels, Review Panels and Disciplinary Chambers matters.

REPRESENTATIVE CASES

  • Love v. Lowden (2007) - Obtained dismissal of plaintiff’s future loss of capacity claim of $150,000.
  • Johnson v. Carter (2006) - Family Compensation Act claim arising from the death of a laser eye surgeon.
  • Yeung v. Au (2004) - Claim involving a severely brain-injured teenage girl.
  • Haynes v. Vancouver School Board (2005) - Obtained dismissal of action by employee alleging disability caused by actions of employer.  Dismissal upheld on appeal, 2007.
  • Booth v. B.C. Life (2004) - Obtained dismissal of accidental death claim.
