PRACTICE PROFILE

Emily Stock is a member of the firm’s Financial Professional Services, Construction & Engineering, Insurance, and Intellectual Property & Technology Practices. Her practice is primarily litigation-based with an emphasis on the defence of financial professionals and engineers.

Emily obtained her Bachelors degree in Mathematics and Engineering Science, with a specialization in Applied Mechanics, from Queen’s University in 2000. She obtained her Masters in Business Administration and Bachelor of Laws concurrently from the University of Victoria in 2004.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCES

  • Representative experiences includes representing clients at all levels of Court in British Columbia on a variety of interlocutory and final matters. Emily has appeared before the British Columbia Supreme Court on matters involving professional negligence, intellectual property infringement including passing off, manufacturing defect claims, construction disputes and other commercial and insurance disputes. Emily has also appeared in the British Columbia Court of Appeal on appeals of interlocutory matters.
  • Emily was co-counsel with David Wende in a 65 day trial in 2007. David and Emily successfully defended a national firm of Chartered Accountants and one of its partners, a chartered accountant and chartered business valuator. The allegations were dismissed in full, with costs (Newton v. Marzban 2008 BCSC 328).
  • Emily has also resolved many disputes through various forms of alternative dispute resolution, and in particular through mediation.
  • In addition to defending professionals in litigation, Emily assists professionals in managing their risks, including through drafting contracts and engagement letters. She also assists professionals in professional disciplinary matters before their self-regulatory bodies.
