Fritz has appeared as counsel in trials, motions and judicial review applications in the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia, as well as in the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal. Fritz has also successfully represented clients before the Human Rights Tribunal of British Columbia, and in applications for leave to intervene in appeals to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Before joining Alexander Holburn in 2007, Fritz worked as a litigation lawyer in South Africa where he was the head of the Strategic Litigation Unit of Lawyers for Human Rights, a non-governmental human rights organization. In that capacity Fritz participated in many public interest cases, including the first cases in which South Africa’s Constitutional Court considered, respectively, the right to culture and whether refugee status constituted a constitutionally protected ground of non-discrimination, and the first case in which a South African Court recognized that unaccompanied foreign children were entitled to legal representation at State expense. Fritz also acted as counsel in the case that removed the statutory exclusion of disabled refugees in South Africa from receiving government assistance benefits.
Fritz remains committed to serving vulnerable persons within his community, and regularly provides pro-bono representation and advice to indigent individuals and human rights organizations in BC.
In his spare time Fritz enjoys hiking, camping, playing tennis, socializing with friends and travelling.
