PRACTICE PROFILE

Patrick Saul practices in the field of aviation law and leads the firm’s Aviation and Transportation Practice Groups.  His clients include regional, national and international airlines; rotary and fixed wing charter operators; maintenance facilities; flight schools and individual pilots and engineers.  Mr. Saul represents and advises his clients on a full range of aviation related matters including litigation arising out of aircraft accidents and incidents and regulatory issues.  

Representing aviation underwriters, Mr. Saul regularly conducts aviation related product liability litigation. He provides advice and management with respect to airline claims handling.  He represents individuals and companies before the CTA on licensing any regulatory matters.  Mr. Saul and the firm’s aviation lawyers are closely involved with the aviation industry and its regulatory authorities.

He conducts litigation in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Northwest Territories and Newfoundland and Labrador. The 2006 Lexpert/American Lawyer Media Guide to the Top 500 Lawyers in Canada recognizes Mr. Saul as a leading practitioner in Canada in both transportation law and product liability law.  He has also been selected by his peers for inclusion in the publication, The Best Lawyers in Canada, since its commencement in 2006.

Mr. Saul is a qualified private pilot.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

  • Served as General Attorney for Air Canada representing the airline in various litigation and employment law matters and handling CTSB and NTSB investigations.

RECENT PUBLICATIONS AND CONFERENCES

  • Addressed Winter Aviation Conference February 18, 2005 on the topic "Fire in the Aviation Industry", which focussed on recent airline fires and manufacturers actions in reducing fire-risk in new generation aircraft.
  • Addressed 2005 Conference of the Pacific Aircraft Engineers Association on relevant legal issues.
  • Co-author of "Injuctions - British Columbia Law and Practice", October, 2002, CLE.
