Practice Profile 

Alexander Holburn Beaudin & Lang LLP’s Strata Property Practice provides advice and services to strata corporations, strata management companies and individual strata lot owners.   We deal with residential strata corporations, mixed use strata corporations and those that are purely commercial.

Led by Elaine McCormack, who has over 16 years of experience in strata law, our Strata Property Practice lawyers have a broad depth of experience in dealing with a variety of strata issues.  Our team is experienced in dealing with both dispute resolution matters and strata governance issues.  Our Strata Property lawyers have assisted clients with a variety of matters, including residential tenancy disputes, human rights issues, and commercial arbitrations.  Our team has appeared before the British Columbia Supreme Court and the Provincial Court of British Columbia (Small Claims). We also understand that some strata matters are best resolved through negotiation, arbitration or mediation, and we work with our clients to decide the most efficient approach to a complex issue. 

Services

Our team is experienced with a broad range of issues that call for dispute resolution, including the following:

• collecting strata fees, special levies and other amounts owing to the strata corporation from an owner
• appointing administrators
• allocating strata fees in unique circumstances
• enforcing bylaws
• resolving residential tenancy disputes
• interpreting and enforcing agreements between a strata corporation and other parties
  

Our team is also experienced in solicitors matters, including the following:

• drafting bylaws
• drafting agreements
• drafting resolutions
• chairing strata corporation general meetings
• attending council meetings and strata corporation general meetings

Community Involvement

We regularly provide seminars on strata law issues to home owners, strata council members, strata managers, arbitrators and lawyers.  Our practice leader, Elaine McCormack, has spoken before members of the Condominium Home Owners’ Association (CHOA), the Professional Association of Managing Agents (PAMA), the Board of Directors for the BC Arbitration and Mediation Institute (BCAMI), and the Construction Law Subsection of the Canadian Bar Association. Lisa Mackie, associate, has also taught a residential tenancy course for Vancouver Community College’s Building Manager Certificate program.
