We provide wide-ranging legal services to local governments and public sector clients throughout British Columbia. Our clients range from smaller communities without in-house legal support to larger municipal clients who recognize the need for outside counsel to support their in-house team in specific legal subject areas or on larger matters requiring significant resources.
The legal issues that local governments face are diverse. Our local government lawyers are experienced in handling matters involving construction and tendering, contracts, defamation, the environment, expropriation, freedom of information, harassment and human rights, information and privacy, insurance coverage, jurisdiction and governance, labour and employment, policing, public private partnerships, real estate and leasing.
Local government issues are also frequently time sensitive in nature. We emphasize responding to emerging issues by providing our clients with practical advice in a timely way.
Service Throughout British Columbia
We recognize that the legal needs of local government clients are not restricted to the Lower Mainland. We regularly travel throughout the province to work with our clients, so that we can better understand their operations, their communities and their issues. We do not charge local government clients located outside the Lower Mainland for travel time, except in unusual circumstances.
We are actively involved as speakers with the Local Government Management Association of British Columbia, the Municipal Subsection of the CBA British Columbia branch and the North Central Municipal Association, among others. We also regularly present complimentary client seminars on current legal issues to clients throughout the province.
