James Maloney is an Associate Counsel at Alexander Holburn.

James is a civil trial lawyer with over 25 years of experience. James articled with a prominent Toronto insurance litigation firm and was a senior partner with the firm until he was elected as the Federal Member of Parliament for Etobicoke Lakeshore in 2015.

James specializes in complex civil litigation cases, predominantly in the areas of insurance, personal injury, property, and road authority claims. James has a diverse practice background. He has represented corporations in a variety of internet disputes and represented The Province of Ontario in several cases involving the tainted blood crisis of the 1980’s spending a year at trial in three cases. James also represented participants involved in The Elliott Lake Inquiry.

James is the former President of the Toronto Lawyers Club. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Franklin Horner Community Centre, The Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto and the Public Accountants Council of Ontario.

James is the proud recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. He is currently the Chair of the House of Commons Natural Resources Committee and a member of The Standing Committee of Justice and Human Rights. He is also a Member of the Special Committee reviewing the law regarding medical Assistance in Dying. He is Chair of the 25 member Toronto Caucus. James also proudly serves as Chair of the Canada-Ireland Interparliamentary Group and Vice-Chair of the Canada Europe Interparliamentary Group.

It could easily be said that James was born into the legal profession and public service. His father served as a judge of the former Supreme Court of Ontario and his mother sat as a member of the Senate of Canada.

James, his partner Deirdre and their yellow Lab Walnut live in Etobicoke.
