Kathryn is the leader of the firm’s Appeals Practice. Her practice focuses primarily on civil appeals in all areas of the firm’s litigation practice, including defamation and privacy, class actions, motor vehicle, municipal law, occupier’s liability, strata property and residential tenancy, transportation, and general civil and commercial litigation.
In addition to conducting appeals, she advises on all aspects of appellate practice and procedure, including providing opinions on the prospects of an appeal, strategic support, and assistance in drafting submissions. Kathryn also serves as referral counsel for the Access Pro Bono Court of Appeal Program and as Co-Chair of the CBABC Appellate Advocacy subsection.
Kathryn is co-editor (with Justice Gareth Morley) of the text Government Liability: Law and Practice, Thomson Reuters Canada Ltd., and current author of the chapters on Negligence and Misfeasance in Public Office.
Kathryn is also one of the firm’s research lawyers. Having previously practiced in our Transportation and Insurance practice groups, she draws on her litigation experience and broad-based knowledge of the law and procedure to assist our lawyers with complex research issues, as well as the crafting of arguments and drafting of pleadings and opinions.
Prior to joining the firm, Kathryn worked as a judicial law clerk at the British Columbia Court of Appeal.
