Alexander Holburn is a leading full-service, Vancouver-based Canadian law firm providing a wide range of litigation, dispute resolution and business law services to clients throughout Canada and abroad. We have a proud near 50-year history as trusted legal advisers to governments and municipalities, regional, national and international companies, and individuals.

We believe our clients seek thoughtful, practical legal advice, and our 85+ lawyers provide precisely that. We are distinguished by our collective experience and expertise in virtually all areas of law encountered by our clients. The depth and breadth of our lawyers, enable us to draw upon the resources from within our firm, when needed, to provide our clients with the legal services they require.

Your Perspective, Our Focus

We are dedicated to forming long-term, ongoing relationships with our clients. We do this by placing a strong emphasis on understanding the environments and contexts in which our clients conduct their business, so that we may serve them better.

Firm History

It is widely accepted that the firm was founded in 1973 through the merger of Robson, Alexander + Guest and McLachlan Holburn + Beaudin. However, to accurately define the age of the firm, it is appropriate to note that the firm of Robson + McDonald was founded in 1948.

Core Values

Our firm has given careful thought to those values that we believe should guide and inform the way we conduct ourselves with our clients, and with each other. While there are many ways to describe the cultural environment at Alexander Holburn, the three words that describe and define it best are:

Trust + Balance + Teamwork

To honour the spirit of these values, and to serve as a constant reminder of them, we have created an ornament that we call “The Alexander” (named after Ernie Alexander, QC, one of our founders, who wonderfully emulated these values), which was created by a partner of the firm. The Alexander can be found in each of our boardrooms and is given on select occasions to those connected with the firm in recognition of these shared values, and as a symbol of our continued commitment to them.

Each year, we also acknowledge various firm members with our annual Reach Award and bi-annual Endeavour Award. These awards recognize outstanding employees who go above and beyond their daily responsibilities for the betterment of the firm.

Client Service Promise

At Alexander Holburn, our approach to legal services delivery has a single core focus: our clients. Clients are the lifeblood of our business and our knowledge of this fact is an intrinsic part of our firm’s culture. To this end, we have developed a dedicated Client Service Program. Encompassing initiatives such as regular client feedback surveys, an internal client service award and an official Client Service Promise, it provides a robust framework for client engagement.

Our collective commitment to client service excellence underpins our approach and is the cornerstone of all our firm’s operations. That’s the Alexander Holburn difference.
