Jane Reid is a Partner and leader of the firm’s Family Law Practice, where she has dedicated her career exclusively to family law since 2004.
Jane understands that family law matters are deeply personal and often arise during the most challenging times in her clients’ lives. Whether navigating property division, spousal and child support, or parenting arrangements, Jane brings both legal expertise and genuine care to every case.
Jane has particular expertise in high-net-worth cases involving complex property division and income issues. Her ability to understand corporate structures, analyze financial details, and address tax implications helps clients achieve fair and practical outcomes. She believes that knowledge is wealth and works to ensure her clients are well-informed about both the legal process and their options at every stage.
As a collaborative lawyer, and skilled litigator, Jane offers clients flexibility in how they resolve their matters. She works hard to find solutions outside of court whenever possible but stands ready to advocate effectively in litigation when needed. She has successfully represented clients at all levels of court in British Columbia. Jane also helps clients plan for the future by negotiating and preparing cohabitation and marriage agreements that provide financial certainty and peace of mind.
Jane is a certified mediator who assists parties to resolve matters outside of court with her extensive knowledge of the law, along with her considered and creative approaches to settlement.
What sets Jane apart is her attentive, empathetic approach. She recognizes that no two families are alike and tailors her strategy to each client’s unique circumstances and goals. Her commitment to her clients extends beyond her practice. She has coordinated a pro bono mediation program since 2017, volunteered as a mediator since 2014, and continues to support BC Rise/Women’s Legal Centre.
Jane is deeply engaged in the family law community as a regular conference speaker, contributor to family law publications, and guest instructor for the Law Society of British Columbia. She has been recognized as a leading practitioner in family law in British Columbia by Best Lawyers, Lexpert, and Doyle’s Guide.
