With COVID-19 forcing the global economy to a slow crawl, our court system is matching the pace, with some exceptions. On March 27, 2020, the British Columbia provincial government issued Ministerial Order No. M086, “Limitation Periods (COVID-19) Order” under the Emergency Program Act, c. 111, which suspended limitation periods for civil or family matters in British Columbia’s Provincial Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. Builders Lien Act Exempted from Suspension of Limitation Periods

By order dated March 26, 2020, the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General made an order that: Every mandatory limitation period and any other mandatory time period that is established in an enactment or law of British Columbia within which a civil or family action, proceeding, claim or appeal must be commenced in Provincial Court, Supreme Court or Court of Appeal is suspended.
