PRACTICE PROFILE

Loren Mallett is the leader of the firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology practice and a member of the firm’s Health, Corporate/Commercial, and Franchise practices. Loren is a registered Canadian Trade-mark Agent and is also the supervising lawyer responsible for the firm’s SmartStart (TM) Program.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

  • Assisting clients who specialize in new media and video game markets including preparation and negotiation of developer agreements, technology and software engine license agreements and industry specific employment and confidentiality agreements.
  • Protection and enforcement of client’s intellectual property rights including copyright, trade-marks, industrial design and trade secrets; protection of client intellectual property includes all forms of registration including the management of client’s domestic and international trade-mark portfolios.  He also gives advice regarding the exploitation of client copyright through acquisitions, licensing and enforcement.
  • Assisting clients who specialize in the health care industry including biopharmaceutical companies and health care providers relating to the preparation and negotiation of technology license and acquisition agreements, clinical trials management services agreements, service agreements and confidentiality agreements.
  • Assisting clients with the commercialization of their innovative products and services including corporate and share structure advice for start-up ventures, debt/equity financing, stock option agreements, negotiation and preparation of supply, manufacturing, design and sales agreements and general advice relating to product development and launch. 
  • Mergers and acquisitions: Loren acts as counsel to a variety of corporate clients, including companies within the natural resource, oil and petroleum sectors advising on acquisitions and divestitures by way of share purchase, asset purchase or corporate reorganizations.
  • General corporate services to businesses ranging from start-up enterprises to large Canadian corporations: Loren advises various companies on issues relating to corporate structure and management, director’s and officer’s liability and the resolution of shareholder disputes.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE

Loren is married with two kids and lives in North Vancouver. Outside of the office, Loren has just completed his first half marathon and is training for his first triathlon. Loren is a member of the Waterboys, a group of Vancouver-based business men and women who support and cheer for the BC Lions. Loren is also passionate about spending time with his wife, playing video games with his 10-year old son, painting with his six-year old daughter, and fetch with his five-year old Labrador-Retriever, Luke. Before entering university, Loren spent time working and traveling in Europe, Australia, and Hong Kong.
