PRACTICE PROFILE

John Goundrey is a partner in the firm and a member of the firm’s Corporate/Commercial Environmental, Health, Local Government, Real Estate and Transportation practices.

His practice focuses on assisting corporate and institutional clients in a broad range of real estate and commercial transactions. He advises real estate clients in relation to commercial, residential and infrastructural developments, real estate purchases and sales, leasing, real estate based financing and other transactions. He advises local government clients in relation to zoning, land use and other issues. He assists clients in the railroad and trucking sectors on a range of operational, regulatory and transactional issues. He advises clients in the health sector chiefly with respect to the development and management of residential and other health care facilities.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

• Acting for the real estate development subsidiary of a major financial institution in connection with a number of mixed use development projects.
• Acting for the purchaser of a major office tower in downtown Vancouver.
• Acting for a major railroad on a series of agreements with the Province of British Columbia in relation to the construction of a major highway.
• Acting for a major oil company in relation to a broad range of real estate and environmental matters.
• Acting for a British Columbia health authority in relation to the construction and operation of health care facilities and the formation of public-private partnerships.
• Acting for a major trucking company in relation to a variety of regulatory and commercial matters.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE

John is an avid traveler and cyclist who sees touring the world on two wheels as a good opportunity to eat and drink as much as he wants.  He is also a runner and Bikram yoga enthusiast.  He has a cabin on Saturna Island (one of BC’s Southern Gulf Islands) where he enjoys kayaking and hiking.  He has a keen interest in the preservation of Vancouver’s built heritage and has served as a member of the board of directors of the Vancouver Heritage Foundation for a number of years.
